Turn Any Foreign Transcript Into a US-Ready Evaluation

Snap a photo of a diploma or transcript and CertVue does the heavy lifting that normally takes credential agencies weeks and hundreds of dollars — reading, translating, converting credits, and scoring document reliability. You get a clear report you can keep, or forward to any school for final review.

1

Upload

Drop in a phone photo, scan, or PDF of the credential — in any language. No paperwork, no mailing originals.

2

Read & Translate

AI-grade OCR extracts every course, grade, and credit, then translates the document into clear English.

3

Map & Score

Each course is matched to its US equivalent and credit-hour value, while a reliability engine checks the document for tamper signals.

4

Share

Download your full report, or send a school a clean version showing the reliability score and transferable credits only.

A Complete Credential Read, Not Just a Scan

Every evaluation combines document intelligence, language translation, US credit mapping, and fraud screening into one shareable result — built on the same secure, privacy-first architecture as the CertVue verifier.

Reliability Score, Not a Verdict

CertVue never claims a document is "fake." Instead it returns a transparent 0–100 reliability score built from institution and accreditation checks, image-forensic analysis (tampering, compression, metadata), and internal consistency of grades and credits. Schools receive only the score they need — the raw forensic detail stays private to the applicant.

OCR Accuracy, Any Language

AI-grade optical recognition reads printed transcripts, stamps, and mark sheets — then translates them into English with course-aware terminology, so nothing is lost between systems.

US Credit-Hour Mapping

Country-specific conversion rules translate ECTS, contact hours, and year-long courses into US semester credit hours, with each course matched to a named US equivalent and a confidence score.

One Report, Two Audiences

Applicants see everything — translations, OCR confidence, every signal, and what to fix. When they forward the report to a school, CertVue automatically generates a clean, signed, expiring link that exposes only the reliability score and the transferable-credit summary. Same evaluation, privacy by design.

What Is a GPA — and the Carnegie System?

US schools express academic performance as a Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale, weighted by Carnegie credit hours. Here is exactly how CertVue converts your foreign transcript into both.

What Is a GPA?

A Grade Point Average is a single number that summarizes your grades across every course. Each letter grade is worth a fixed number of grade points on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). Your GPA is the average of those grade points — but weighted by how many credit hours each course is worth, so a 4-credit course counts more than a 1-credit course.

GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours)

Example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course gives (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ (3+4) = 24 ÷ 7 = 3.43 GPA. That is exactly the math CertVue runs on your mapped courses to estimate your US GPA.

US 4.0 Grade Scale

CertVue maps each translated grade to its US letter and grade-point value before averaging:

LetterGrade PointsTypical %
A4.093–100
A−3.790–92
B+3.387–89
B3.083–86
B−2.780–82
C+2.377–79
C2.073–76
D1.060–69
F0.0Below 60

The Carnegie Credit-Hour System

The Carnegie Unit is the standard US schools use to measure how much study a course represents. One Carnegie credit hour equals roughly one hour of class per week across a ~15-week semester (about 750 minutes of instruction), plus the expected outside study time.

This is why a US "3-credit course" is the common unit of transfer. CertVue converts foreign measures — ECTS, contact hours, or year-long courses — into Carnegie credit hours so your workload is expressed in the same currency US registrars use.

Those Carnegie credit hours do double duty: they determine how many credits may transfer, and they are the weights in your GPA calculation.

How CertVue Estimates Your GPA

After OCR and translation, CertVue (1) maps each course to its US equivalent and Carnegie credit-hour value, (2) converts each original grade to the US 4.0 scale, and (3) computes the credit-weighted average above.

Only graded, matched courses count toward the GPA — pass/fail internships or courses with no direct US equivalent are flagged for manual review and excluded, just as a registrar would handle them.

This estimate is a pre-analysis, not an official GPA. Institutions may apply their own conversion policies, plus/minus rules, or rounding.

Transcript Evaluation & Free Preview FAQs

Everything you need to know about our instant academic translation, course mapping, and how to get started completely free.

How does the Free Transcript Evaluation work?

Our Free Preview lets you test-drive our advanced AI pipeline risk-free. When you run a sample evaluation, you get full access to the interactive report interface, showcasing our course translation, US credit-hour mapping system, and digital reliability score based on authentic sample payloads. This allows you to evaluate the quality and speed of the platform before uploading your own documents.

What does the Transcript Evaluation service actually do?

CertVue's evaluation engine performs a complete deep-read of your academic documents:
OCR Extraction: Automatically extracts courses, grades, dates, and credits from scans or photos.
English Translation: Dynamically translates text from over 60 languages with context-aware academic terminology.
US System Mapping: Standardizes credits (e.g. converting ECTS or contact hours) to the US semester credit-hour and GPA equivalency.
Tamper Forensics: Audits document metadata, compression, and pixels to calculate a 0-100 reliability score.

Is this evaluation officially accepted by all US universities?

CertVue is designed to act as an instant, defensible starting point. It generates high-integrity draft maps and verifies document reliability dynamically. While final transfer-credit decisions and formal admissions evaluations always rest with the receiving institution's registrar, having a pre-mapped US equivalent with a high reliability score drastically speeds up their internal audit times.

How does the "One Report, Two Audiences" feature work?

We prioritize candidate privacy above all else. As the applicant, you have full access to your detailed forensic analysis, ELA scan indicators, and translation files. When you share the report with a school, CertVue generates a private, expiring link that shows the school only the US course equivalency map, cumulative credits, and the final Reliability Score. This is fully compliant with GDPR and FERPA regulations.

Do I need to send physical copies of my transcripts?

No! CertVue is completely digital. You will never need to mail original paper records or pay hefty notary and shipping fees. Simply drop a high-resolution PDF or clear smartphone camera photo of your transcript or diploma directly into our uploader, and our system parses it in real-time.

What is the 0-100 Reliability Score?

The score represents the cryptographic and administrative consistency of the uploaded document. It verifies if the issuing school exists in CHEA/WHED databases, looks for EXIF camera metadata alignment, and tests if grade tables match mathematically. A high score (e.g. above 80) represents a high-confidence, tamper-free document, streamlining registrar approvals.

Data we process

  • Your uploaded document (image or PDF) is sent through OCR and AI analysis.
  • We extract courses, grades, credits, institution details, and student name when present on the document.
  • A reliability score and US credit-mapping report are generated from that data.
  • Results are saved to your CertVue account and linked to your profile.
  • Your full report may be emailed to your account address as a light-mode PDF.
  • When you share with a school, they receive only the School view (score and transferable credits) — not forensic detail.

Sample evaluations do not use credits. Each real transcript upload uses 1 credit.
